The Osun State Independent Electoral Commission (OSSIEC) has announced the inauguration of a verification committee for the upcoming local government elections scheduled for February 22, 2025.
OSSIEC Chairman Hashim Abioye revealed that the 18-member committee, led by Abdul-lateef Olayanju, will scrutinize the certificates and documents of all candidates.
The committee will ensure compliance with age, academic qualifications, and tax requirements.
Abioye emphasized that the committee’s findings would be made public to maintain transparency and public trust in the electoral process.
This move marks the first time external bodies are involved in OSSIEC’s activities to enhance transparency.
