The political landscape in Osun State is shifting significantly, with Rauf Aregbesola’s faction, the Omoluabi Progressives, breaking away from the All Progressives Congress (APC). This decision stems from dissatisfaction with how the APC has been handling its internal issues, especially after the party’s loss in the last election cycle.
Aregbesola and his followers are now positioning themselves to be a major political force ahead of the 2026 governorship election.
Their frustration with the APC, including issues of exclusion, lack of fair hearing for expelled leaders, and poor management of internal conflicts, has led to this split. Aregbesola is clearly determined to lead his group toward success, focusing on good governance and broad political inclusion.
It’s interesting to note that this breakaway group could serve as a strong third force in the upcoming election, especially since they’re already working on organizing new membership and spreading their message across Osun State.
How do you think this development might affect the dynamics of the 2026 governorship race?
