A group, in Abak LGA Akwa Ibom state known as the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Youth vanguard has rejected Hon. Friday Archibong aka Frikpu as a candidate imposed by the speaker of the state assembly Mr. Udeme Otong, on consensus chapter chairman of the party in Abak LGA.
The group, in a statement signed by the President, Comr. Uwem Essien from Otoro clan, maintained that the chairman must emerge from among the interested candidates screened by the committee precisely from Otoro clan where the party has zone the chapter chairman.
Comr. Essien said, “Any individual who didn’t undergo this process cannot stand to benefit from it.
“Come to think of it, why should imposition of candidate when there are other vibrant, deep thinkers and intellectual aspirants who have once served the party and still willing to serve are on ground. The truth here is that Otoro clan irrespective of intimidation by the speaker Elder Udeme Otong will not accept Hon. Friday Archibong as chapter chairman. We are already aware of the tactics and techniques they want to employ to insanely install consensus ahead of the PDP congress”
However, at the floor of the general meeting in Abak on Wednesday 12th June, 2024, the vanguard youth vehemently and generally rejected what they perceived as imposition for so many reasons. PDP chapter chairman is not a piece of cake which one can dash out to an outsider who is not equipped mentally and physically for the assignment, coupled with the testimony of grammatical incompetence reports from his ward executives.
“If the PDP state chairman Rt. Hon. Aniekan Akpan cannot come to terms as it concerns unnecessary imposition of a failed party man as chapter chairman, then the party should abstractly forget Otoro clan in the general election.
The group moreover admonished leaders of the party to provide a level playing ground on the day of the election for party delegates to choose their next chairman in Abak LGA.
In a recent development, staunch members of the PDP in Otoro clan expressed worried over the kind of politics the speaker is trying to initiate in Abak LGA. ” Politics of forcing someone on the masses irrespective of the low intellectual ability of the person, how can you force one person on the masses against the wishes of the general people, does that really makes you a good leader?
Otoro clan is big enough to take their decision of who they want as chapter chairman of the party in Abak LGA and not the decision of one man.
