The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has intervened in the crisis within its Kogi State chapter, which saw 18 out of 21 local government council chairmen passing a vote of no confidence on the caretaker committee.
The NWC’s memo, issued on August 7, 2024, criticized the caretaker committee for overstepping its constitutional powers, specifically in relation to conducting congresses. The memo emphasized that only the NWC has the authority to manage such elections.
The PDP Frontliners, a pro-PDP group, supported the NWC’s intervention, condemning the caretaker committee’s actions and calling for its disbandment. They accused the committee of attempting to undermine a previously held delegate conference and replace it with a manipulated process. The group commended the NWC for its firm stance and expressed hope that the party would overcome its current challenges and be successful in future elections.
