Normalcy has been restored in Oba, a community in Anambra State, following a leadership crisis that arose after the election of a new monarch. The crisis began when Sir Augustine Chinedu Emelobe was announced as the monarch-elect, but the state’s Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy, and Community Affairs, Hon TonyCollins Nwabunwanne, challenged the process. The dispute led to confusion about the legitimacy of the election and the involvement of Governor Soludo.
However, the situation was resolved on Monday with the formal installation of HRM Engr Sir Augustine Chinedu Emelobe as the new monarch. The ceremony, which took place at the community’s ancient shrine, Okuana Oba, involved elders and kingmakers, who presented Emelobe with the Ọfọ Oba, a symbol of authority and spiritual leadership. The new monarch also dedicated his leadership to God at St Bethel Anglican Church in Urueze Oba, symbolizing a return to peace and unity in the community.
