Rep. Unyime Idem, representing the Ukanafun/Oruk Anam Federal Constituency and Chairman of the House Committee on Public Procurement, has been honored with the “Best Performing Legislator on Grassroots Development, Human Empowerment, and Legislative Performance” award by the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), Akwa Ibom State chapter.
The recognition was presented during the 2024 Local Government Workers’ Week in Uyo. NULGE’s nomination letter, signed by State President Comrade Anestina Iweh and State Secretary Comrade Ofunne Chidi, acknowledged Idem’s outstanding contributions and achievements in Akwa Ibom.
Receiving the award on behalf of Rep. Idem, his Campaign Director General and Commissioner for Local Government Service Commission, Hon. Saturday Akpan, expressed gratitude to NULGE, emphasizing that the recognition will motivate Idem to further enhance the welfare of the constituents.
Idem also addressed the importance of financial autonomy for local governments, pledging his support for any legislative initiatives aimed at achieving this goal. He urged NULGE to establish effective management measures for the anticipated funds from the federal government to prevent issues related to delayed payments of salaries and other entitlements.
This award adds to the accolades received by Rep. Idem for his exemplary performance in the 9th and 10th National Assembly.
