The Nigerian House of Representatives has instructed the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) to ensure the immediate blocking of all pornographic websites in the country.

The resolution mandates that all internet service providers in Nigeria comply with the directive and block such content without delay.

The motion, sponsored by Dalhatu Tafoki, a lawmaker from Katsina State, was passed following his argument that cyber pornography is becoming a global issue. He emphasized that Nigeria has not taken sufficient steps to tackle it.

Tafoki, who is a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), pointed out that Nigeria is a “highly religious country” where both major faiths condemn and prohibit nudity and obscenity.

He also referenced several nations in Asia, Africa, and the Middle East that have enacted laws to ban pornography, underscoring the global efforts to combat it.

The Katsina lawmaker further highlighted the warnings from psychologists and sociologists regarding the harmful effects of pornography, including its potential to lead to adultery, prostitution, and addiction.

Speaker Tajudeen Abbas put the motion to a voice vote, and it was approved by the majority of lawmakers.

In addition, the House has directed the NCC to impose penalties on any service providers that fail to comply with the order.
