Tony Okocha, the factional Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State, has denied rumors suggesting that he met secretly with Chijioke Ihunwo, the Chairman of Obio/Akpor Local Government Area, with the intention of aligning with Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s camp.
The rumors gained traction after a photo of Okocha and Ihunwo together surfaced online, sparking speculation that Okocha might be defecting from the camp of Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, to support Fubara. However, Okocha’s media aide, Vincent Gbosi, issued a statement denouncing these claims as “cheap and infantile propaganda.”
The statement further clarified that the photo in question was manipulated and the accusations were unfounded. Okocha emphasized that he would never have a meeting with Ihunwo, describing him as a “political neophyte” seeking attention by falsely associating himself with Okocha’s name. He urged the public to disregard the rumors, calling them defamatory and false.
