The coalition of opposition lawmakers, led by Hon. Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere, has raised concerns about an alleged legal maneuver by the All Progressives Congress (APC) and a group supporting FCT Minister Nyesom Wike. They claim this group is attempting to secure a court order to halt the monthly local government allocations in Rivers State, despite no court declaring the recent local government elections invalid.
Ugochinyere expressed that this is part of a broader strategy to undermine local governance and democracy in Rivers State, following recent elections held under a Supreme Court mandate. He warned that any attempt to disrupt the allocation of funds would be met with resistance from the citizens and called on President Bola Tinubu to intervene.
The coalition is monitoring developments closely, particularly as they have heard claims that favorable judges may be assigned to the case. Ugochinyere emphasized the importance of upholding the constitutional rights of local governments and urged the judiciary to reject frivolous requests that could damage its credibility.
