Tension has enveloped Katsina State’s capital after an offensive social media post written in Hausa by a Christian resident, Mani Abubakar, sparked anger.
The now-deleted Facebook post allegedly contained derogatory remarks about Islam, questioning its foundation and the origins of the Quran.
The outraged community, seeking retaliation, attempted to harm Abubakar, resulting in the burning of his house and car in Babaruga after he escaped on the night of January 30.
Abubakar’s current location is unknown, prompting the Christian Association of Nigeria to collaborate with authorities and plan a meeting with the Emir of Katsina to ensure his safety upon his reappearance.
Christian leaders in the state are appealing for calm and understanding.
The Vice Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in Katsina, Venerable Muyiwa Segun, strongly condemned any form of violence or disrespect towards other religions.
“Everyone should respect the other’s religion,” Segun stated, adding, “Christians don’t have any business abusing other people’s religion. That is not how to do evangelism.”
Segun also confirmed that CAN is working with security officials and religious leaders to ensure peace and safety in the community.
