The FCT Police have arrested the parish priest and several officials of the Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Maitama, Abuja, following a deadly stampede that killed at least 10 people.
The incident occurred during the distribution of palliatives, and the police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the event. SP Josephine Adeh, the police spokesperson, confirmed that key individuals involved in the distribution were invited for questioning to understand the events leading to the tragedy.
Although they were released after initial questioning, the investigation is ongoing. The police emphasized that the purpose of the arrests was to ensure accountability, and rejected claims that they were targeting the Church’s charitable efforts.
