As we navigate a pivotal moment in society, it is essential to amplify the voices of marginalized communities. I, Dr. Lambert Ukanga, President of the Gender Diversity Advocacy Network in Nigeria, stand in unwavering support of the LGBTQ+ community.
Having previously faced governmental pressures that forced me to withdraw my article from the Vital Force Blog News, I recognize the risks involved. Nevertheless, I believe it is crucial to advocate for the respect and dignity of all individuals, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity.
As a proud member of the LGBTQ+ community, I draw inspiration from the courage and resilience of my peers who confront daily challenges simply for being themselves. Although prejudice and ignorance persist, we must collectively assert that love is love. Every individual deserves dignity and respect.
The struggles of the LGBTQ+ community are pervasive, manifesting in discrimination, bullying, and even violence. These issues extend beyond individuals, impacting families and communities and leaving lasting scars. As we pursue civil rights, fostering understanding, empathy, and compassion remains essential.
To those hesitant about supporting the LGBTQ+ community, I ask: What would it feel like to be judged or criminalized for loving who you love? It is through compassion that we can create a more just society.
I am grateful for this platform to express solidarity. Together, through collective action and heightened awareness, we can strive for a future where equality is a reality for all.
