The Benue State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) has received approval from the Benue State House of Assembly to resume the recruitment of over 9,000 teachers, following a suspension in December. The recruitment process had been halted due to an investigation by an Ad-Hoc Committee led by Hon. Cephas Dyako into the procedure, specifically concerning potential breaches of laws and due process. After a thorough investigation, the committee cleared the Board, led by Mrs. Grace Adagba, of any wrongdoing and lifted the suspension.
The committee’s report affirmed that the Board was legally empowered to recruit, appoint, promote, and discipline teaching and non-teaching staff on grade levels 07 and above. It was also revealed that 74,574 candidates applied for the recruitment, with 48,895 participating in the Computer-Based Test (CBT).
The screening process for those who met the required cut-off marks is now in its final stages. The screening will take place between January 10 and January 16, 2024, at the Board’s headquarters. Each of the 23 Local Government Areas (LGAs) in the state will have applicants scheduled for specific dates. The Board assured all applicants that the process will be smooth, transparent, and aimed at ensuring effective basic education delivery.
