Vp Shettima, speaker Abbas at the presidential villa address severe flood in Maiduguri.

On Wednesday, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, met with Vice President Kashim Shettima at the Presidential Villa in Abuja to address the severe flooding in Maiduguri, Borno State. The discussion focused on immediate intervention measures to aid the flood victims. President Bola Tinubu has already directed the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to assist, following the worst flooding in decades caused by the overflow of the Alau Dam.

Speaker Abbas and Vice President Shettima brainstormed strategies to provide relief and have planned a N3 billion intervention fund to support affected individuals. Abbas assured that the funds would be transparently managed under Governor Babagana Zulum’s oversight. Beyond Borno, similar measures are being considered for other flood-prone states, including Kaduna and Niger.
