The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has criticized the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), accusing its leadership and key figures, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and the PDP Governors Forum, of dishonesty and internal impunity that could cost the party the 2027 presidential election.
Speaking at a media briefing in Abuja on Friday, Wike expressed concerns over Atiku’s recent efforts to form a coalition of opposition parties to challenge President Bola Tinubu in 2027. He also took a swipe at the PDP Governors Forum, led by Governor Seyi Makinde, for distancing themselves from the proposed coalition.
Wike accused the forum and other party leaders of repeating the same mistakes that led to the party’s defeat in the 2023 elections.
“Those who claim to support a coalition are not being truthful, and those in the party itself are not adding value—everything is driven by self-interest,” Wike stated.
He said he had personally contacted Governor Makinde after watching him on television, accusing him of not being truthful about key issues within the party.
“One major reason the PDP lost in 2023 was due to impunity—individuals disregarded the party’s constitution, especially on power-sharing between the North and South,” Wike noted. “Now, the Governors Forum is treading the same path of impunity. They are a pressure group, not an official organ of the party, yet they act as if they run the show.”
Wike warned that unless the PDP urgently addresses these internal issues, history is bound to repeat itself in the 2027 general elections.
