Emmanuel Amuneke, a former winger for Nigeria, has indicated interest in managing the team [Super Eagles]. Jose Peseiro, the Super Eagles’ current head coach, is under a lot of criticism as a result of the team’s recent struggles. If the Super Eagles lose to Guinea-Bissau today, there are rumors that the Portuguese will be fired.
Amuneke stated his intention to coach the squad if the occasion arises.
Amuneke was a member of the Super Eagles team that won the 1994 Africa Cup of Nations in Tunisia.
“I’ve never coached the Super Eagles, I’ve only gone twice to assist someone but coaching Super Eagles on my own I have not,” Amuneke told News Central.
“But of course Nigeria is my country and the national team we are all part of it and when the opportunity comes and Nigerians feel that we can add something to the national team of course it’s a welcome development.”
The former winger is currently a consultant to the coaching team of the Zambian Super League club, Zanaco FC.
He also once handled the Tanzania national team.
