Gov. Fubara visit the scene of attack in Ikwere LG headquarters.

Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State visited the Ikwerre Local Government Area secretariat on Monday following an arson attack that caused significant damage. The fire destroyed office equipment, files, and furniture as unidentified assailants targeted multiple local government buildings just as newly elected officials were set to assume their roles.

This incident occurred after police withdrew their presence from the 23 council secretariats, despite Fubara’s insistence that elections proceed as scheduled. In the recent polls, the Action Peoples Party secured 22 of the 23 chairmanship positions, while the Action Alliance won one. Fubara officially swore in the newly elected chairmen on Sunday, but some faced violent attacks immediately after taking office.
